Washington, D.C. Weekend Weather: Thunder Rolls In, With Cooler Temp Behind It

The weekend forecast for Washington, D.C. starts with "thunder clouds" and ends with "cold winds."

We'll be rolling into the weekend with showers and thunderstorms. And we'll end it with mostly sunny skies, but with cooler temps and sharp winds.

Thunderstorms are expected to begin Friday afternoon, with wind gusts up to 22 mph. The skies will clear overnight, but showers and thunderstorms will be back in the forecast Saturday as the windy conditions continue.

We'll have mostly sunny skies on Sunday, but wind gusts of up to 26 mph are going to keep temperatures in the high 50s or low 60s. The low Sunday night will be 43 degrees!

Could be worse, according to the Weather Channel. This rush of cooler temperatures might even bring a few snowflakes to northern Michigan.

Thursday's break in the daily rain showers ended a record-setting 15-day streak, according to the Capital Weather Gang. Sunday and Monday offers another break before the chance for showers returns for the balance of the next week.

Today: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 1pm, then a chance of showers. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 77. Southwest wind 9 to 14 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 56. West wind 5 to 8 mph.

Saturday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2pm. Increasing clouds, with a high near 74. Southwest wind 5 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Saturday Night: Showers likely before 8pm. Partly cloudy, with a low around 48. Northwest wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 61. West wind around 17 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph.

Sunday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 43.

Monday: Sunny, with a high near 65.
