Wax Figure of Donald Trump Unveiled at Madame Tussauds in DC
Wax museum Madame Tussauds unveiled its new Trump wax figure this week ahead of the inauguration swearing-in on Friday.
WASHINGTON, DC -- While most people traveling to the nation's capital for the presidential inauguration this week likely won't get a chance to say hello to the new president, they will be able to get up close and personal with a new wax figure of Donald J. Trump unveiled this week in DC.
Wax museum Madame Tussauds in DC unveiled its new Trump wax figure this week ahead of the inauguration swearing-in on Friday. Dressed in a navy suit, red tie and "Made in America" flag lapel pin, the figure marks the end of a six-month long creative process, according to the museum, involving a team of 20 artists who worked around the clock to have it ready in time for the inauguration crowds.
Trump is the first president whose likeness was already featured in the wax museum before being elected president, the museum said. For the earlier wax figure, Trump "conducted a detailed sitting for his previous figure at Trump Tower New York in 1997 where artists took hundreds of measurements and photographs," the museum said. After he was elected president, the original measurements and photographs were used, with updated research, to create his new likeness. Achieving the Trump hairstyle took five weeks, with each hair individually inserted by hand, the museum noted.

“Mr. Trump was the most-searched person globally on Google in 2016 so the pressure was on to perfect his iconic features in time for inauguration,” says Therese Alvich, general manager of Madame Tussauds Washington, D.C. “Creating the new U.S. president is a tradition that we look forward to every election cycle and we are proud to welcome such a lifelike figure to our attraction.”

At Madame Tussauds Washington, D.C., Trump's likeness will stand in a recreation of the White House Rose Garden, a new addition to the attraction’s President’s Gallery, the only place in the world where visitors can “meet” figures of all past presidents.
