What's Open, Closed For Christmas 2018 In DC

Wondering what holiday hours will be with Christmas on a Tuesday this year? We have the answers.

WASHINGTON, DC -- It's Christmas, and that means people are closing their doors and getting ready to celebrate with family. And with the holiday falling on a Tuesday this year, that can mean a lot of confusion about what is open and what is closed, and on what days.

Not to worry: we've got a basic breakdown of what you can expect in our area over the Christmas break.

Government Offices: All government offices are closed on Tuesday, but will be open Monday.

DMV: Locations will be closed on Tuesday, but open on Monday.

Schools: All D.C. schools will be closed Dec. 24-Jan. 1. Kids will be back in school on Jan. 2.

Libraries: All libraries will be closed on Tuesday, and open until 1 p.m. on Monday.

Metro: The following is Metro's schedule on Monday and Tuesday:

Monday, December 24
Christmas Eve
  • Metrorail system will operate 5 a.m. until 11:30 p.m. on a regular weekday schedule
  • Metrobus will operate on a regular schedule
  • MetroAccess subscription trips have been cancelled
  • Regular fares and parking fees will be in effect
  • No scheduled track work
Tuesday, December 25
Christmas Day
  • Metrorail system will operate 8 a.m. until 11:00 p.m. on a Sunday schedule
  • Metrobus will operate on a Sunday schedule
  • MetroAccess subscription trips have been cancelled
  • Off-peak fares will be in effect and parking will be free at all Metro-operated facilities
  • No scheduled track work
