Clerk Accused Of Stealing Checks In Miami-Dade
A Miami-Dade records clerk is accused of stealing 54 checks that were submitted to the county

DORAL, FL -- A Miami-Dade records clerk was accused Tuesday of stealing 54 checks that were submitted to the county.
Records specialist David Michael Santana with the Miami-Dade County Clerk of the Courts Office was charged with grand theft and official misconduct.
Detective Argemis Colome of the Miami-Dade Police Department said the checks totaled $30,320.

The 24-year-old Santana of Coral Springs allegedly deposited the checks into personal accounts.
"The checks were intended as payments for documents to be recorded at the Clerk’s Office," Colome explained.

Arrest documents said that Santana admitted to depositing the checks into a total of seven bank accounts belonging to his girlfriend and friends.
"The defendant also stated that he placed the documents that were mailed with the checks in the recycling bin at the clerk's office which were then destroyed," arrest documents said.
Santana was taken into custody and brought to Turner Guilford Knight Detention Center.
