MIAMI, FL -- A 47-year-old Miami man, who was "sweating heavily" allegedly sat down near the exit doors of a Burger King and pulled out a black, threaded metal pipe with dangling wires, exposed batteries and a red cap during Tuesday's lunchtime rush causing the restaurant to be evacuated for several hours.

Luis Felipe Jaspe, Jr. was charged with possessing a hoax bomb and displaying it inside a restaurant after a customer called Miami-Dade police to report the incident at the Burger King located at 7070 SW 40 Street, according to Miami-Dade police.

"A patron at the restaurant observed the subject handling a threaded metal pipe wrapped with black tape, a red cap and battery wires," explained Detective Argemis Colome of the Miami-Dade Police Department. "The subject then removed a laptop computer and a metal box with electrical wires from his bag."

Arrest documents said Jaspe opened up the laptop at one point during the incident.

Miami-Dade Kendall District officers took Jaspe into custody. "MDPD bomb technicians along with Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives agents, responded to the scene, destroyed the device and determined it was a hoax," said Colome.
