Brookhaven Breaking Ground On New Police HQ On Friday
The city's new public safety building will be located on Briarwood Road next to the future Peachtree Creek greenway.

BROOKHAVEN, GA — Ground will be broken on Friday for Brookhaven's long-awaited new public safety building. The ceremony will take place at 11 am at 1793 Briarwood Road, next to the site of the future Peachtree Creek greenway.
Due to be completed by the summer of 2021, the new public safety building will feature amenities and room to grow for the police department and municipal court, whose full and part-time staff are currently in a rented Buford Highway building. The current facility has 54 parking spaces for a police department with 85 employees and a municipal court.
The new building will be twice the size of the current police headquarters with over 33,000 square feet and 168 parking spots. The new building will be located next to the Peachtree Creek Greenway trailhead.

"The addition of this new building reflects the city's vision to invest in and grow our physical resources to meet the needs of the residents and employees," said Brookhaven Mayor John Ernst. "The new public service building plays an important dual role: to provide adequate space for the BPD and Municipal Court and serve as a safety guardian at the trailhead of the new Peachtree Creek Greenway."
The construction contract for $15 million facility is funded with SPLOST proceeds, approved by voters in November 2017. An additional $3 million is estimated for furnishings, fixtures equipment, project management and other expenses related to moving into the new facility.

The city already owned the property where the building will be located. The property was acquired with funds from the Community Investment Agreement with Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, announced in December 2017.
