CityDog Market Celebrates Four Years in Brookhaven

The month of April is peppered with a series of events to mark the store's anniversary.

In 2008, Renee Palmer and Patsy McGirl opened a pet supplies store during what was considered America's worst economy since the Great Depression.

But with faith in market research that told them that 30319 was one of the city's healthiest zip codes, business experience, and their love for the pet care, the two thought Brookhaven would be a perfect location to service the needs of pet owners who only wanted good healthy products for their pets.

Four years later, the store which Palmer dubs "a health food store for pets" still thrives in Brookhaven having been voted by Jezebel Magazine as Best Pet Supply Store in Atlanta and this month, celebrates its fourth anniversary with a series of special events dedicated to healthy and happy pets and pet owners.

"We're blessed," Palmer said of the business. "We have fantastic customers and really appreciate the community's support that we've been given. We opened in the worst economy of our generation and have thrived and its because of the people in this community."

The store's success is also attributed to its uniqueness. The store, unlike big box pet retailers, is known for its warm "family room" ambiance.

"We wanted the store to be a little different," Palmer said. "It kind of doesn't look like a pet supply store, because we merchandise it in really unique ways while offering five-star customer service."

The store's success is also attributed to its partnerships, Palmer said.

of Brookhaven sells CityDog merchandise and its Peachtree Street neighbor, , has for more than a year, partnered with the store to host a monthly pet-friendly 5K. Additionally, CityDog is a 2012 sponsor of the Brookhaven Bolt and starting this year, will appear monthly at the Brookhaven Farmer's Market.
