Man Faces Murder Charge After Brookhaven Cops Receive Tip
A tip to Crime Stoppers led to a man's arrest in a fatal Brookhaven shooting, police said.
BROOKHAVEN, GA — An 18-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of a 16-year-old teenager near Clairmont Road and Buford Highway, Brookhaven Police said Tuesday.
The shooting happened around 11 p.m., June 14, on the Northeast Expressway between Briarwood and Clairmont roads, police previously said.
Enrique Mendoza, of Riverdale, was arrested Monday after authorities received a tip through Crime Stoppers Greater Atlanta, police said.

"The information received was instrumental in identifying Mendoza as the primary suspect. Brookhaven detectives quickly acted on the tip, gathered additional information and obtained a murder warrant against Mendoza," police said in a news release.
Mendoza was arrested on charges of felony murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and is being held at the DeKalb County Jail, police said.

“This arrest would not have been possible without the support of Crime Stoppers Greater Atlanta and the community,” Brookhaven Police Chief Brandon Gurley said in a news release. “We are grateful to those who came forward with information, and we hope this brings some measure of comfort to the victim’s family.”
A motive in the deadly shooting was not revealed.
