Plane Crash Injures 3 Near Brookhaven Homes
The aircraft hit several trees before landing in the yard of a home and injuring three people in a crash, DeKalb County officials say.
BROOKHAVEN, GA — Three people were injured after a plane crashed near homes Saturday at the corner of Clairmont Road and 9th Street, DeKalb County officials said.
A Piper PA-28 en route from the DeKalb-Peachtree Airport to Rome went down around 12:30 a.m. Saturday, county officials said. The aircraft first departed from the airport around 10:45 p.m. Friday before returning to conduct multiple standard touch-and-go landings, county officials said.
During the crash, the Piper hit several trees before landing in the yard of a home, county officials said. No houses were damaged, but downed power lines that led to outages had to be restored, county officials said.

Two passengers suffered serious internal injuries, while a third passenger had a broken ankle, county officials said. They were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, and the status of their conditions was not immediately known.
ATL Air Recovery took the aircraft to their Griffin facility, county officials said. The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration were investigating the crash.

“We are grateful to Brookhaven Police, DeKalb Fire Rescue and Georgia Power for their swift response to (the) crash," DeKalb-Peachtree Airport Dir. Hunter Hines said in a news release. "Our focus now is on supporting the ongoing investigation, and we will be working closely with the NTSB and FAA to determine the cause of the accident.”
