Superintendent Names Replacement For Retiring South Douglas Elementary Principal

DOUGLAS COUNTY, GA — As South Douglas Elementary School Principal Casey Duffey prepares to retire in the coming months, a new principal has been appointed to take over at the end of the school year.

Trent North, superintendent of the Douglas County School System, appointed Brad Corbett as the new South Douglas Elementary School principal, effective July 1, according to a news release from the district. Duffey will retire after school's out for the summer.

Corbett — who currently serves as the principal of Bay Springs Middle School in Carroll County Schools — has served as a classroom teacher and in administrative positions in both Douglas and Carroll county school systems.

He began his teaching career in Fulton County Schools, and has served as an administrator at elementary, middle and high schools.

"Known as a school leader focused on helping students achieve academic success, he effectively builds relationships to create a climate and culture conducive to learning for all students and staff," the release said.

Corbett has a bachelor's degree in elementary education and teaching from Indiana University Bloomington, a master's degree in educational leadership and a specialist in educational leadership degree from the University of West Georgia.

South Douglas Elementary School is located at 8299 Highway 166 in Douglasville.
