Here are the top five stories in Douglasville today:
- Three parks in northern Georgia, including one Douglasville park, are finalists in the 2023 Niagara Perk Your Park Campaign, a partnership between Niagara Bottling and the National Recreation and Park Association aimed at revitalizing community spaces. The top three selected parks, including Fowler Field Park in Douglasville, Phoenix Trail Park in College Park, and Rebel Valley Park in Atlanta, will each receive a $75,000 grant for improvements based on an online vote. Proposed enhancements range from rain gardens and trail improvements to new trails, dog parks, court refurbishments, and exercise equipment additions. (Atlanta News First)
- Vantage Data Centers is set to establish a new data center campus in Douglas County, encompassing nearly 1.7 million square feet across three buildings. Although specific details of the location are not disclosed, the project is expected to conclude by December 2025. This venture marks Vantage's first foray into Georgia, as the company currently operates data centers across several US states including Virginia, Washington, Arizona, and California. - Douglasville native Coach Chester Forsh made history as the first black head coach in Douglas County 50 years ago at the age of 22. He is currently coaching at Douglas County High School and has been recognized for his trailblazing career with a road named after him—Coach Forsh Road—in honor of his achievements and contributions to coaching. - Join the City of Douglasville for the inaugural Pop Up at the Park event, a collaboration with LadiQuin Enterprise, taking place on Sunday, Aug. 27 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at Hunter Park (8830 Gurley Road). Designed to bring families together for recreation and community reading, the event features engaging activities, author appearances, refreshments, and scavenger hunts. - Down the road in Dekalb County, police are searching for a two-year-old boy. J’asiah Mitchell was reported missing on Wednesday night and searches conducted over the weekend did not yield any clues to the boy's location.
