Fire Dept. To Raise Funds For Injured Valdosta First Responders

Douglas County firefighters will collect donations at Sam's Club this weekend for Valdosta first responders injured in a freak accident.

DOUGLASVILLE, GA — Douglas County firefighters will be collecting donations over the weekend at Sam’s Club to help Valdosta first responders who were seriously injured earlier this month in a freak accident.

On July 12, a passing truck inadvertently snagged a downed power line in Valdosta, snapping the power pole and causing it to “whip around,” according to Lowndes County Sheriff Ashley Paulk as quoted by The Valdosta Daily Times. The pole struck three firefighters and a police officer. WALB-TV in Albany reported that one firefighter had his leg amputated below the knee at the scene.

Douglas County firefighters will be collecting donations in front of Sam’s Club on Concourse Parkway on Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. All proceeds will go to the Valdosta Fire Department.
