Fox That Chased Family, Attacked Pet In Douglas County Had Rabies

A fox that attacked a Douglas County family pet tested positive for rabies, according to animal services.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, GA — Douglas County residents are being warned to watch out for rabid animals after a Fox that attacked a pet also tested positive for rabies.

According to Douglas County Animal Services, multiple people were chased by an aggressive fox on June 24 around Mann Road and Richardson Road. The fox attacked a family pet, but no one else, animal services said.

Animal Control Officers found the fox dead in the backyard of a home. Test results confirmed the fox had rabies, according to animal control.

The family pet that was attacked had been vaccinated against rabies but will be quarantined for the next 45 days.

Douglas County Animal Services issued a reminder to the public to not touch or interfere with any wildlife, regardless of if they appear to be healthy or sick. Family pets should be vaccinated annually, against the threat of rabies.
