Free Drive-Thru Pet Vaccination Event Set At Douglas County Animal Shelter

Mark your calendar for Feb. 26 — Commissioner Kelly Robinson and Douglas County Animal Services are hosting a free pet vaccination drive.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, GA — Thanks to a Petco Love grant, Douglas County Animal Services and District 2 Commissioner Kelly Robinson are hosting a free, drive-thru pet vaccination event in two weekends, the first of two pet vaccination drives in Douglas County in the next two months.

On Saturday, Feb. 26 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., animal shelter staff will be providing the feline FVRCP vaccine — which prevents deadly upper respiratory viruses as well as distemper, according to Petco veterinarians — and the canine DAPP vaccine, which prevents against distemper, adenovirus, parainfluenza and parvo in dogs.

The free vaccination clinic — where they will also be offering free microchipping services — is a drive-thru event at the shelter (2171 Mack Road in Douglasville), so you don't need to exit your car.

All dogs must still be on a leash, and all cats must be in a carrier.

The rabies vaccine won't be offered at this event, but mark your calendar for March 26 where the shelter will be offering low-cost rabies vaccines.

This event is targeting District 2, but pet parents who live elsewhere won't be turned away, DCAS officials said on Facebook. Shelter officials are in the planning stages of hosting free vaccine clinics in all the other districts after March.

The shelter was awarded a Petco Love grant to help vaccinate as many owned animals for free. The initiative is aimed at helping pet parents get their fur babies vaccinated, but also to help reduce the spread of deadly diseases that are common to unvaccinated animals.

"DCAS thanks you for your support in keeping our pet families together," the shelter said on Facebook.
