DOUGLASVILLE, GA — Team USA snagged gold and silver in the first Olympic women's monobob event — and it was Douglasville native Elana Meyers Taylor who secured the silver medal.

Kaillie Humphries, who won the gold medal, and Meyers Taylor became the first women to win a bobsled medal at four straight Olympics, according to ESPN. Christine de Bruin of Canada won the bronze medal in the monobob competition.

Meyers Taylor finished fourth after her first two runs but made up time in the third and fourth runs to finish at 4:20:81, just over a week after being in isolation for COVID-19. The 37-year-old tested positive for the virus two days after arriving in Beijing and was confined to an isolation hotel.

Athletes who tested positive must give two consecutive negative COVID-19 tests before they can be released, according to CNN. Meyers Taylor secured the two negative tests and was cleared for release Feb. 5.

The bobsledder took an entire season off to give birth to her son, Nico, who came to Beijing with her and her husband. She yelled, "We did it" as she approached the finish line, ESPN reported.

"Not too bad for a 37-year-old mom, you know," Meyers Taylor said, according to ESPN. "I'm the oldest driver in the competition and the only one coming off a pregnancy, so I'm very excited about the starts."

This marks Meyers Taylor's fourth career Olympic medal. She previously earned silver medals in 2014 and 2018, and earned a bronze medal in 2010. She'll be competing in the two-woman bobsled on Friday, with training starting Tuesday.
