Here are the top five stories today in Douglasville:
- Gladys Knight took over the stage on the opening night of the Greystone Amphitheater in Douglasville, Metro Atlanta's newest outdoor concert venue. The venue marks the culmination of a multi-year effort to bring top-tier entertainment to the region. The opening night was a sold-out concert by the legendary Knight, and the Greystone Amphitheater has lined up impressive acts like "Boney James" and LeAnn Rimes for upcoming performances, making it a premier destination for music enthusiasts in the region. - Seven students from nearby Lithia Springs High School, known as the Lions, have received prestigious academic honors from the College Board National Recognition Programs. These awards acknowledge the students' exceptional achievements in high school and their impressive academic performance, both in the classroom and on College Board assessments. - A bike ride event is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 7 from 8:00-10:00 a.m. at the Douglasville Police Department (2083 Fairburn Road). - The American Red Cross is organizing a blood drive on Oct. 3 in Douglasville, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Interested donors can schedule an appointment through the Red Cross website. All donors will receive a $10 Amazon gift card via email. (Fox 5 Atlanta)
- The Douglasville Police Department hosts a free handgun clinic for the public on the first Tuesday of each month from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The classes will cover fundamental aspects such as gun laws, handgun safety, and basic shooting skills. To attend, participants must be 18 years old and make a reservation by contacting DPDTraining@douglasvillega.gov or calling Cpl. Dominic Snyder at (678) 293-1625.
