Lee Road Widening Planned To Start In Early 2022
Douglas County's transportation director said the long-anticipated Lee Road widening project is anticipated to start in early 2022.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, GA — Construction on the Lee Road widening project is set to start in early 2022 after nearly 20 years in the making, the Douglas County Sentinel reported.
Douglas County Board of Commissioners approved a roughly $19.7 million contract with CMES Inc. to widen Lee Road to four lanes between Interstate 20 and Highway 92 on Dec. 14, an approximate 2.5-mile stretch of the road.
Including design, the total cost of the project is estimated to be more than $30 million, Douglas County Transportation Director Miguel Valentin said, according to the Sentinel. About $14.3 million of the total cost will come from federal and state money, with the rest coming from the county's 2016 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax fund.

The Georgia Department of Transportation gave its final approval to award the contract for construction recently, the Sentinel reported. The Lee Road project is part of a larger one to create a Southern Inner Arc in the county.
The first part of the project will include clearing of right of way and relocation of utilities. An official timeline was not available as of publication.
