Lee Road Widening Project To Start Tuesday
The project will widen Lee Road from two to four lanes between Interstate 20 and Fairburn Road, a project in the making for about 20 years.
DOUGLAS COUNTY, GA — Initial phases of a project widening a section of Lee Road is set to begin Tuesday, the Douglas County Sentinel reported.
Right-of-way clearing and utility relocation will start Tuesday, and county spokesperson Rick Martin said the county will be communicating what's happening and how road work will affect drivers, according to the Sentinel.
In December, Douglas County commissioners approved a nearly $19.7 million contract with CMES Inc. to widen Lee Road from two to four lanes between Interstate 20 and Highway 92. The section spans roughly 2.5 miles.

Douglas County Transportation Director Miguel Valentin previously said the cost of the project with design — which started in the early 2000s — would be more than $30 million.
About $14.3 million of the total cost would come from federal and state money, and the remainder would come from the county's 2016 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax fund. The Lee Road project is part of a larger one to create a Southern Inner Arc in the county.
