Man Found Dead During Traffic Stop In Douglas Co.
A driver's family is being threatened after a male passenger was found dead in their car, Douglas County authorities said Monday.
LITHIA SPRINGS, GA — Authorities say the family of a Douglas County driver is being threatened after a passenger was found dead in their car.
The Douglas County Sheriff's Office on Monday said Malachi A. Mitchell was found dead Wednesday night in a car during a traffic stop near Thornton Road and Interstate 20. It is unknown how Mitchell died.
The unnamed driver of the car was taken to the sheriff's office facility, where authorities said he was cooperative. They added the driver has since been released from the sheriff's office.

However, the driver's family has been threatened, prompting the sheriff's office to increase patrol and surveillance, authorities said.
"For the integrity of the investigation and safety of the individuals, we do not intend to release any further information at this time," authorities said in a news release.

After completion, the case will be given to the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office for review.
