Douglas County Commissioners Approve Site Work For $3.4M New Driver Services Office
The state granted a new driver services office to Douglas County in August 2020, which will be built on Earl D. Lee Boulevard near the jail.
DOUGLAS COUNTY, GA — On Tuesday, Douglas County commissioners unanimously approved a motion to go ahead with getting site work completed on the county's new driver services office, paving the way for construction to start in the coming months.
In August 2020, the state granted a Department of Driver Services site to be built in Douglas County, the Douglas County Sentinel reported. The site will also house a commercial driver's license testing facility, the fourth in the state.
Commissioners approved entering a memorandum of understanding with the state DDS to build the $3.4 million state-of-the-art office last year, which is set to be located on Earl D. Lee Boulevard between A-1 Bail Bonds and the county jail, according to the Sentinel.

The county also approved a $600,000 purchase for the roughly 4.5 acres for the site last January as part of the agreement with the state. DDS will acquire the land after all site work, such as installing stormwater pipes and utilities, is completed.
The state is then responsible for constructing the 8,000-square-foot customer service center, including 16 issuing counters, 20 testing stations for the written portion of the license test and providing all fixtures, furniture and equipment for the interior.
