  1. A country music sensation who grew up in Douglasville, Niko Moon is set to light up the atmosphere with a pre-race concert at Daytona International Speedway's Coke Zero Sugar 400 event, marking the thrilling conclusion of the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series regular season before playoffs. Hailing from a background of musical inspiration, Moon's rise in the industry has seen him crafting hits for Zac Brown Band and Rascal Flatts, before carving his own path with EPs like "Coastin'" and "Good Time." The performance will take place today, Aug. 26. (Hometown News)
  2. More details have been released regarding a story in the previous newsletter: In a tragic incident on I-20 in Georgia, a tractor-trailer driver died after colliding with a Honda Accord in the early hours of Thursday morning. The collision caused the Accord to swerve off the road and come to a halt in the median, while the tractor-trailer overturned, striking a guardrail after crossing all lanes. The Georgia State Patrol, suspecting involvement, found an abandoned Nissan Altima near the crash site. The identity of the deceased tractor-trailer driver remains undisclosed. (Douglasville Patch)
  3. REMINDER: The annual Hollis Street Jamboree is happening at the House of Hope on 8304 Hollis St. today, Aug. 26, from 1:00-6:00 p.m. The event promises a range of attractions including a cookout, local resource information, kids' activities, music, and more. For parking, you can use the adjacent Simpson and Daughters Mortuary on 6787 James D. Simpson Ave. (Douglasville Police Department via Facebook)
  4. The initial version of the "Forward Douglasville, 2023-2033" Comprehensive Plan has been unveiled by the City of Douglasville, developed in collaboration with consulting team Goodwyn Mills Cawood. Stakeholders are invited to assess the draft and engage in the upcoming Public Hearing scheduled during the City Council meeting on Aug. 31 at 6:00 p.m., offering an opportunity to provide feedback. This event marks the second Public Hearing dedicated to finalizing the plan. (Douglasville, Georgia)
  5. Georgia authorities are working to confirm the identity of a child's body found at a garbage facility, suspected to be 2-year-old J’Asiah Mitchell, whose father had been accused of falsely claiming his abduction. The nearby East Point police discovered the remains and are now investigating Artavious North, the child's father, as a possible suspect, after his initial report of an armed robbery and kidnapping was debunked. As the community rallied to search for the missing child, Mitchell's mother, Asia Mitchell, initially unsure of who could take her son, later revealed that the child had tragically been found, using a GoFundMe page to cover funeral expenses.
