Pearson To Emcee Douglas County Senior Center's Grand Opening
Longtime WSB-TV news anchor Monica Kaufman Pearson will host Friday's grand opening of the county's newest senior center in Lithia Springs.

DOUGLASVILLE, GA — Longtime WSB-TV news anchor Monica Kaufman Pearson will emcee the grand opening ceremony Friday morning for Douglas County’s newest senior center in Lithia Springs.
More than 100 guests are expected to attend the red-carpet event, according to county spokesperson Rick Martin, and the public is invited to attend.
The ceremony starts at 10 a.m. at the new center, located at 7301 Groover Lake Road. Overflow parking and shuttle service will be available next door at Douglas County Fire Station 1 and nearby at Cornerstone Baptist Church on Sweetwater Road.

Following the ceremony, the center will be open to the public for tours and pickle ball demonstrations, with new membership signups taken until 2 p.m. The senior center will begin its normal hours of operation next Monday.
The new senior activity center is the second one in Douglas County built with funds from a special purpose local option sales tax, or SPLOST. According to Martin, the final cost of building is expected to be just less than $4.8 million.

Construction of the 18,000 square foot facility began in February 2020 and was completed in November when keys were turned over to the county. The architect was Carter Watkins, with building done by Headley Construction.
