Redistricting Maps Approved By Douglasville City Council

Council members approved the new ward maps last Monday, and under the city's charter, the council's maps are binding.

The biggest changes to the maps include an area west of downtown and north of Interstate 20 moving from Wards 1 and 3 into Ward 2, and a chunk of land from the existing Ward 4 just south of I-20 would go to Ward 1.

DOUGLASVILLE, GA — As part of the redistricting process, Douglasville City Council approved new ward maps last Monday, which move several sections of Douglasville into new wards and under new representation.

Usually, redistricting maps go through the state legislature for approval. But under the city of Douglasville's charter, changes to it are allowed with votes by council at two consecutive meetings, according to the Douglas County Sentinel.

The council first approved the ward maps in January, and the final stamp of approval was last Monday's vote.
