Teen Creates Dessert Shop, Legendary Eats And Treats, From His Own Kitchen

Legend Sims, 14, has always loved to bake. Now, he's making his own unique baked goods for dessert lovers in Douglas and Paulding counties.

VILLA RICA, GA — Ever since Legend Sims was a little kid, he's always loved to cook. He ventured into baking in the last year or so, thanks to the social media platform TikTok — but now he's launched his own dessert shop, right from his kitchen.

Legend, 14, launched Legendary Eats and Treats — a play-on-words of his name — in January, and filled more than 20 orders in just two weeks. He and his mom Carmen, who helps with the bakery business, live in Villa Rica but fill orders across both Douglas and Paulding counties.

Legend bakes artisan bread, banana bread, zucchini bread, cinnamon rolls and Portuguese sweet bread, but is maybe best known for his one-of-a-kind cookies and cookie sandwiches — all of which are customizable.

His newest cookie sandwich creations are inspired after fan-favorite cakes: red velvet cookie sandwiches, carrot cake cookie sandwiches, pineapple upside down cookie sandwiches, lemon cookie sandwiches and banana pudding cookie sandwiches, all stuffed with cream cheese fillings and dusted with powdered sugar.

All the cookie sandwiches also come in regular cookie form, in addition to chocolate chip, sugar, peanut butter, snickerdoodle, butter and lemon cookies.

"You won't find these at other places. I've never seen anything like what he makes elsewhere," Carmen said. "He also just customizes it. If somebody wants coconut flakes or cocoa powder on the top instead of powdered sugar, he'll do it. He puts lots of love in his food, and that makes a difference."

Legend is also willing to make completely custom orders, and comes up with new dessert ideas all the time.

For Valentine's Day, he came up with "blinged-out strawberries," which were chocolate covered strawberries coated with glittery, colored powder and decorated with edible flowers. They even had a sequin-covered stick attached for easy eating.

He's also gotten support from other local businesses, including Flipped Antiques in Douglasville. The store offered for Legend to display his regular cookies there for sale, Carmen said.

Since the other items have to be refrigerated, only the regular cookies in red velvet, pineapple upside down, carrot cake and lemon cookies are available at Flipped Antiques. They come in one-, two- and three-packs, which cost $2, $3.50 and $5, respectively.

Carmen told Patch about her son's baking business, but also about him as a person — he's a straight A student, an amazing kid and a committed, hard worker, she said.

For example, one night he got an order for 130 cookies, two zucchini breads and seven cinnamon rolls. Legend and Carmen both stayed up until 4:30 a.m. to make sure the order was finished and done on time — though Carmen said they realized they had to cut down on the orders after that.

"That was definitely too much, but when he does something, he commits to it and follows through," Carmen told Patch. "He works so hard at it and is doing an amazing job."

Legend also bakes and delivers cookies for the local police and fire departments on his own accord. If someone's interested in delivering cookies to a local law enforcement agency or business, Legendary Eats and Treats will also fulfill orders like that.

Carmen works in Hiram, so she's been meeting customers at her workplace to pick up orders. Customers can also pick up from their home in Villa Rica, or get their order delivered for an additional fee. The mom-and-son duo will deliver within a 20-mile radius.

To place an order, visit Legendary Eats and Treats' Facebook page or Instagram page to view the menu and send a message, or email legendaryeatsandtreats@gmail.com.
