- Prepare for an enjoyable evening of beach-themed trivia and bingo on Aug. 25 at O'Neal Plaza in Douglasville. The event will take place from 6:30-9:00 p.m. Additionally, the Entertainment District will be established, permitting participating restaurants to serve alcohol to patrons within the designated area. Attendees are encouraged to obtain wristbands from these establishments for refreshments, bringing personal alcohol is prohibited. - The Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) has observed a rise in new COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations, although the figures remain considerably lower than the peak during January 2022 and previous summer surges. The current increase is attributed to factors such as the emergence of new COVID-19 variants, reduced emphasis on preventive measures, increased summer travel, larger gatherings, and a potential decline in immunity from vaccinations or past infections. While these factors contribute to the uptick, the current numbers are still notably lower compared to previous instances of COVID-19 spread. (Subscription: Douglas County Sentinel)
