7-Vehicle Pileup Among 4 Overnight Crashes On GA Interstate
A driver accused of driving under the influence was arrested in a series of back-to-back crashes on Interstate 285, police say.
DUNWOODY, GA — Officers in Dunwoody say four major crashes had them busy Monday night on Interstate 285.
There were no serious injuries in the crashes, but Dunwoody Police on Tuesday said they "had their hands full."
The series of crashes on I-285 began with a fiery wreck involving an empty fuel tanker. Police said a car rear-ended the tanker, causing a shutdown of the interstate on both sides.

The car's driver was able to escape the car before flames fully consumed the vehicle, police said. The tanker steered clear of a "catastrophic explosion" because it was empty, police said.
Officers were wrapping up at the scene when an 18-wheeler switched lanes and hit another vehicle on the opposite side of I-285, police said.

At the time of the fiery collision, police said an unidentified driver was arrested for charges of driving under the influence after a head-on crash on Ashford Dunwoody at I-285.
The night was capped with a seven-vehicle pileup involving two semi-trucks near Ashford Dunwoody on I-285. Police said one of the truck drivers could not stop in time and swerved across all lanes, leading to a chain reaction.
"It's a miracle there were no serious injuries in any of these crashes. Please, slow down, pay attention, and leave plenty of space between your vehicle and vehicles in front of you. We want everyone to make it to their destinations safely," police said in a news release.
