Funeral Details For Dunwoody Officer Revealed

A Dunwoody police detective, who previously worked for DeKalb County Police, died this week.

WOODSTOCK, GA — Funeral details for a Dunwoody police detective who died earlier in the week were released Friday.

Dunwoody Police said a funeral for Det. Jordan Laverty is planned for Monday at Woodstock City Church, located at 150 Ridgewalk Pkwy., in Woodstock. Visitation is set for 1 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m., police said.

Laverty, who spent eight years with Dunwoody Police, died Tuesday of an unknown cause, police said. Before joining Dunwoody Police, Laverty spent three years with the DeKalb County Police Department, police said.

"He dedicated his time and service, and his absence has left a void that will not easily be filled. We are heartbroken and wrapping our arms around his family in love and support. Please keep his family, friends and colleagues at the department in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time," Dunwoody Police said.

The Dunwoody Police Foundation has organized a GoFundMe with a $75,000 goal for Laverty's family, including a wife and four children. More than $24,000 had been raised by Friday afternoon.
