Hit-And-Run Suspect Surrenders At DeKalb Jail

The man injured in the hit-and-run was hospitalized and is in stable condition, Dunwoody Police says.

DUNWOODY, GA — The man accused in a hit-and-run that recently injured another man at a pub has surrendered, Dunwoody Police said Monday.

Police said Sheldon Mayers, of Chamblee, turned himself in around 10 p.m. Wednesday at the DeKalb County Jail in connection with the Ashford Dunwoody Road incident.

The man injured in the hit-and-run was hospitalized and is in stable condition, police said.

The two men got into a physical altercation around 2:15 a.m., April 25, after Mayers was accused of touching the man's girlfriend to get her attention, police previously said. The couple was sitting at the bar at the time, police said.

After management asked the men to leave the pub, police said Mayers hit the man with a car before fleeing the scene. Witnesses told officers Mayers purposely hit the man, police said.

DeKalb County Jail records on Monday showed Mayers was arrested on charges of aggravated battery disfigure, hit and run resulting in serious injury or death and aggravated assault with intent to murder. He bonded out of jail on Friday, records showed.
