Here are the top three stories today in Marietta:

  1. The Cobb County Public Library has announced that it has been awarded two grants that aim to support broadband internet adoption and digital literacy in the area. One grant from the Public Library Association will enable the library to host workshops for individuals to improve their computer-related skills. The other grant from the Affordable Connectivity Program aims to promote broadband usage in the community. (Cobb County Courier)
  2. A Marietta native has signed on to play basketball with the Boston Celtics with the biggest contract in NBA history. Player Jaylen Brown recently signed a five-year supermax contract extension worth $304 million. This move keeps Brown with the Celtics after he first signed with the team in 2016. Brown is a two-time All-Star player who averaged career-highs last season of 3.5 assists, 6.9 rebounds, and 26.6 points. (Atlanta News First)
  3. A teenage chef in Marietta is making waves in the Carla Hall presents Favorite Chef Competition. Sophia J. Thomas, 14, has made it to the quarter-finals of the competition where she is facing chefs of all ages. Now, she needs votes in order to advance to the next round. If she wins, Thomas would receive $25,000, a two-page feature spread in a cooking magazine, and a reputation as one of the brightest young chefs in the world. Thomas said that if she won, she would use the prize money to attend a culinary school when she is older. (Fox 5 Atlanta)

To celebrate, Marietta Parks and Recreation has placed a "Most Generous City" box in Glover Park for a lucky person to find!
