Cobb County Schools officials say social media posts made by some staffers seemed to "celebrate" the death of activist Charlie Kirk.

MARIETTA, GA — Some Cobb County staff members have been placed on administrative leave after their social media comments regarding the shooting death of activist Charlie Kirk.

Not specifying a number, officials with the Cobb County School District on Monday said "any employees" who made the posts were on leave and will not be interacting with parents or students, including being in the classrooms.

Without disclosing the contents of the social media posts, school officials said they seemed to "celebrate" Kirk's death. They said they were made aware of the comments after receiving complaints from other educators.

"Posts that celebrate or support the murder of an innocent person by a school shooter are unprofessional and disruptive to the school environment. We expect Cobb educators to help students learn and grow, which requires limiting disruptions to their classrooms and school," school officials said in a news release.

CCSD is thoroughly investigating the incident and "will take appropriate personnel action," school officials said.

They added the matter will also be reported to the Georgia Professional Standards Commission and the ethics board for Georgia educators, "requesting appropriate action against their Georgia teaching license."

School officials said the incident is a rarity for its district.

This comes after workers for Delta Air Lines were suspended, and a staffer with the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta was fired, over their comments on Kirk's death.

Spokespersons for both Georgia-based companies said the posts violated their social media policies.

Kirk, co-founder and CEO of the conservative youth group Turning Point USA, died Wednesday after being shot during an event at Utah Valley University in Orem.

After the deadly shooting, Tyler Robinson, 22, was arrested in connection with Kirk's killing. A report from The New York Times published Saturday said when a friend recognized Robinson from police-released images of the suspect, he told the friend that a doppelganger was "trying to get me in trouble."

Utah County Jail records on Monday showed Robinson was arrested on charges of aggravated murder, discharge of firearm-causing serious bodily injury and obstruction of justice-capital/first degree felony conduct. He is being held without bail, jail records showed.
