Cobb Teacher Fired For Reading Gender Identity Book To Class: Report
The Cobb County Board of Education voted Thursday to end Katherine Rinderle's contract after she was accused of violating district policies.
MARIETTA, GA — Katherine Rinderle, a Cobb County schoolteacher, was fired Thursday after controversy surrounding Rinderle's reading of the gender identity book, "My Shadow is Purple," to her fifth-grade class earlier this year, CNN reported Friday.
Per the media report, the Cobb County Board of Education voted 4-3 to end Rinderle's contract. She was removed from the classroom in March and has been accused of violating six of the school district's policies and administrative rules by reading the book to her students.
“I am disappointed in the district’s decision to terminate me for reading an inclusive and affirming book – one that is representative of diverse student identities,” Rinderle said in a statement released to CNN.
