Driver Dies By Suicide During Police Chase In Cobb: GSP

Troopers tried pulling over a driver for a window tint violation, resulting in a police chase that turned deadly in Cobb County.

MARIETTA, GA — A driver died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound during a police chase Thursday at Cobb Parkway, authorities said.

The Georgia State Patrol said a trooper pulled over a black Honda Civic around 11:45 a.m. for a window tint violation. The driver stopped, but then, fled when the trooper walked up to the car, authorities said.

Troopers chased the car south on Cobb, but the driver was forced to slow down due to traffic, authorities said. This is when a trooper went around the traffic and blocked the Honda from the front, hindering it from continuing, authorities said.

After the car stopped, authorities said troopers approached the Honda and found the driver dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The driver was not identified.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation and Georgia Department of Public Safety Office of Professional Standards investigated the incident.
