Georgia Kids Belong hosts gathering for foster families
Local foster families enjoy a carefree evening of food and fun at the park thanks to nonprofit and community partners.
While one of the difficult barriers in foster care is the lack of support for foster families, Georgia Kids Belong (GKB) is working to change that. Offering family gatherings throughout the state, certifying foster friendly cities and consistently supporting foster families, GKB is making strides in creating supportive communities for children and their foster families.
Recently, 120 children and their families, including Marietta residents, gathered at Morgan Falls Overlook Park for a “Picnic with your people”, co-hosted by Passion City Church. “Food and fellowship are always an encouragement,” said Rebecca Radicchi, senior manager of the nonprofit based in Cobb County, “but we are intentional about giving children a special event. We chose a beautiful park and provided face painting, games, bracelet making, snow cones, bubble wands and a coloring station.”
“One special thing we offered were family pictures, something the children often don’t have,” she continued. The pictures and videos were also provided by Passion City Church, an active partner with GKB. “We are so grateful for their generosity and participation,” Radicchi said, “and highlight them as an example of the impact one church, one company, one civic group or one community can make when working with us as a team. It has a high impact on these families,” she said.
Many family events are planned for this summer and fall. Find out details and keep up with future events through the Foster Friendly App.
