I-75 Marietta Crash, Injures 1, Sends Child To Hospital

A crash on I-75 Tuesday night in Marietta started a chain-reaction, which injured one and sent a child to the hospital.

MARIETTA, GA — A crash on I-75 Tuesday night near the Delk Road exit in Marietta, critically injured one driver and sent a child to the hospital, reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Three vehicles were involved in the accident that happened close to 9 p.m.

Northbound traffic was congested and came to a stop. That’s when the first vehicle crashed into the back of the second, according to police. The second vehicle then hit a passenger van.

Marietta police spokesman Officer Jared Rakestraw said in a news release that the driver of the first car, a 1998 Camry, “failed to slow for the stopped traffic ahead of him.” He was identified as 72-year-old Pantelis Alourdas of Atlanta.

Alourdas was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital and was listed in critical condition early Wednesday morning.

There were five others injured in the crash, but according to Rakestraw, none of their injuries are considered life-threatening.

An Arkansas woman and a child were taken to Kennestone for treatment, and three others in a Mercedes transport van were not seriously injured.
