Man Arrested In Assault At East Cobb Home: Cops
Cobb County Police addressed rumors that a man was injured from a car crash or a shooting. Here's what they say actually happened to him.
MARIETTA, GA — Despite false rumors of a shooting and a crash, officers say they arrested a man accused of hitting another man in the head with a piece of wood sometime Wednesday in the 3000 block of Sandy Plains Road.
Cobb County Police on Thursday said they first received several calls of a person being hit by a vehicle. Then, with the scene still active, police said social media chatter circulated regarding a shooting in the area, "spreading misinformation and fear."
However, police dispelled both rumors, saying a 77-year-old man was injured from an assault at his home.

When officers arrived, police said they found the man bleeding from the head on the sidewalk and ultimately determined he had been assaulted.
The suspected assault happened after the man returned home and found 29-year-old Marietta resident Onur Yenihayat in his bedroom without permission, police said.

The man confronted Yenihayat, and police said Yenihayat hit the man several times in the head with a piece of wood. The man then fled to the sidewalk, where officers found him, police said.
Officers say they saw Yenihayat go back into the home, leading them to set up a perimeter and execute a search warrant. Yenihayat was no longer in the home, police said.
An arrest warrant to charge him with aggravated assault was then obtained, and around 2:15 a.m. Thursday, police said they found him driving on Shallowford Road and took him into custody without incident.
Cobb County Jail records showed Yenihayat was being held without bond Thursday. The man's condition was not immediately known.
