Multi-Vehicle Crash Kills Woman And 1-Year-Old In Marietta

A 32-year-old woman and 1-year-old were killed in a multi-vehicle crash in Marietta, police say.

MARIETTA, GA -- Police in Cobb County are investigating a multi-vehicle crash that killed two people Tuesday in Marietta. The accident occurred on Windy Hill Road near Jean Place, authorities said.

A Gainesville woman and 1-year-old child died in the crash, according to Cobb police spokesman Dana Pierce, but no charges are expected to be filed in the incident. (SIGN UP: Get Patch's Daily Newsletter and Real Time News Alerts. Or, if you have an iPhone, download the free Patch app.)

Investigators believe the wreck occurred when a green 2001 Nissan Altima heading west on Windy Hill Road between Jean Place and the Callaway Road bridge lost control because of the wet conditions on the road.

"After crossing the median, the Nissan was struck on the passenger side by a gold 2004 Ford F-150 truck which was eastbound on Windy Hill Road," Pierce said in a news release. "A black 2014 Dodge Durango (which was also eastbound) struck the rear of the Ford truck after it impacted the Nissan."

After the initial crash, the Dodge rolled down an embankment and struck a silver 2012 Hyundai Genesis,which had pulled over, police said.

The woman behind the wheel of the Nissan has been identified as 32-year-old Odyssey S. Abdur-Raheem, police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Of her three passengers, a 1-year-old, who has not been identified, died as well.

A seven year old female passenger was transported by ambulance to
Children’s Healthcare at Scottish Rite hospital and is listed in serious but stable condition. A nine
year old female was also transported by ambulance to Children’s Healthcare at Scottish Rite hospital
where she is under observation.
The driver of the Ford truck has been identified by authorities as Mario Melendres, 25, of Marietta. His adult female passenger was hurt but the injuries were not considered life threatening. A 10-year-old boy in the back seat was not injured, police said.

The driver of the Dodge Durango has been identified as 36-year-old Monique Ballard of Austell. Ballard was not hurt in the crash.
The driver of the Hyundai Genesis has been identified as Leon Luster, 27, of Marietta. He was OK after the crash, authorities said.
