National Merit Scholar From Marietta Named In 1st Round

Corporate-sponsored awards went to students who plan to complete an undergraduate program at the awarding college or university.

MARIETTA, GA — The first wave of National Merit Scholars for 2022 has been named by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

The winners from Marietta include:

  • Pranav R. Devarinti, WHEELER HIGH SCHOOL

    • NATIONAL MERIT ADP HENRY TAUB MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
  • Kyle A. Hampton, WHEELER HIGH SCHOOL
    • Probable career field: Industrial Design
    • NATIONAL MERIT GENERAL DYNAMICS CORPORATION SCHOLARSHIP
  • Neerav Ravirala, WALTON HIGH SCHOOL
    • Probable career field: Molecular Biology
    • NATIONAL MERIT WALGREEN CO. SCHOLARSHIP
  • Franklin S. Zhao, WALTON HIGH SCHOOL

Approximately 1,000 distinguished high school seniors have won corporate-sponsored National Merit Scholarship awards financed by more than 135 corporations, company foundations and other business organizations.

Scholars were selected from students who advanced to the finalist level in the National Merit Scholarship competition and met the criteria of their scholarship sponsors.

There will be three more rounds of scholarship winners under the 67th annual National Merit Scholarship Program for a total of 7,500 academic champions and scholarships worth approximately $28 million.
