Man Molested 6-Year-Old Girl Who Considered Him A Grandpa Figure, Gets 19 Years In Prison

Richard Amos, 75, will spend 19 years in prison for molesting a 6-year-old girl, whose mother said the child called him "granddad."

COBB COUNTY, GA — A 75-year-old Kennesaw man was found guilty of molesting a 6-year-old girl who called him "granddad," the Cobb District Attorney's Office said.

In May 2020, the girl's mom called police to report her 6-year-old daughter had been sexually assaulted by Richard Amos, who she said was a grandparent figure for the girl.

The child victim told her mom "granddad" touched her inappropriately when she would spend time at their home.

After further investigation, Cobb police discovered more incidents of child molestation within the Amos family. He was arrested May 29, 2020, and has remained in the Cobb County jail since then.

"This child's grandparents' home was her happy place," Deputy Chief Assistant DA Patricia Hull said. "She loved visiting there and spending time with her 'step-dad' before this sexual abuse started. She deserves justice."
