Marietta Mother Of 6 Killed By Drunk Driver In Hit-And-Run Crash, Police Say

Shakena Bates was a mom to six kids ranging in age from 13 to 21. She was walking to work Friday night when she was hit by a car and killed.

MARIETTA, GA — A driver suspected of driving drunk hit a Marietta woman — killing her — and drove off without offering aid, Marietta police said. He was later arrested not far from the scene.

Shakena Bates, 40, was walking on Franklin Gateway around 11:30 p.m. Friday night when she was hit by a Dodge Challenger, a Marietta Police Department spokesperson said. The car drove off without helping Bates or calling 911.

Investigators later arrested the driver, 34-year-old Danilo Barrow, a few hours after the hit-and-run crash. They arrested him just a half-mile from the scene in the parking lot of a Days Inn by Wyndham hotel on Northwest Parkway.
