"The Hundred Dresses" opens at Lionheart this week

A theatrical family presentation of the beloved book tackles bullying and celebrates friendship

Written in 1944 by Eleanor Estes, “The Hundred Dresses” is a timeless story about the hurt inflicted by teasing, and the painful consequences for bystanders who fail to act courageously. Lionheart Theatre Company proudly presents the stage version of the beautifully written story, which has touched the hearts of readers for nearly 60 years.

“I discovered this book many years ago when I was a teacher of elementary school students, and it touched my heart deeply,” said Liz Bigler, the show’s director. “It’s a lesson on taking action, standing up for what is right, doing what your heart tells you you should do, instead of what is easy and safe. It’s a lesson in empathy, courage, and redemption.”

A “talk back” after each performance will give audience members and opportunity to discuss the play’s themes with the cast and crew.

“The ‘talk back’ is a chance for the audience to dig into some of the themes and explore how they might respond in real-life situations,” said Bigler.
