Netherworld's Move To Stone Mountain To Be Considered By Commission

The popular haunted house attraction has been in Norcross for nearly 20 years.

NORCROSS, GA β€” Netherworld, the popular haunted house that's been a fixture in Norcross for nearly 20 years, is officially asking for permission to move to Stone Mountain.

The rezoning of the haunt's new site, on West Park Place Boulevard near Stone Mountain Highway, is on the December 7 agenda for the Gwinnett County Planning Commission.

"Netherworld Haunted House began in 1997 and has grown to become the award-winning, nationally recognized haunted house that it is today," attorney Shane M. Lanham wrote on behalf of of Netherworld in documents submitted to the planning commission.

"After nearly twenty years of operation, Netherworld has decided to relocate its operation to southern Gwinnett County near Stone Mountain."

Netherworld already owns the 9.5-acre property in Stone Mountain. The main building on the site already is zoned for an entertainment facility. But, Netherworld's lawyers write, since some activities would happen outside that building, they're applying to have the entire property zoned that way.

The company also would renovate two buildings on the property to house its seasonal attractions.

Netherworld must get approval from the planning commission before the rezoning goes to the county commission for final approval.

Netherworld is a self-guided haunted house filled with more than 100 actors, special effects and mechanical monsters.

It has consistently been named one of the nation's best haunted houses, including by publications such as USA Today, DreadCentral.com, Fangoria and AOL. In 2015, it was named the No. 1 Haunted House of All-Time by Halloween/haunted house industry website Hauntworld.
