Norcross Water Services Switch Starts Friday

Gwinnett County will begin changing out city water meters for its own meters beginning April 26.

Get ready, Norcross: The county is coming in soon to switch out the water meters.

Starting Friday, April 26, Gwinnett County is changing out the city water meters for its own, according to the city of Norcross website. The switch comes after the Norcross City Council approved the intergovernmental agreement to sell its water and wastewater system to Gwinnett.

Only half of the city's residents and businesses should have their meters changed since the other half are already being serviced by the county. The official start date for all city accounts to move over to the county is May 13.

UWS is the contractor handling this meter replacement and will be in Norcross working until early May. The city of Norcross notes that the company's logo (shown in the photo to the right) is prominent on its trucks and employee shirts, so if citizens have any concerns, they are encouraged to call Norcross Police at 770-448-2111.

"The final bills from the City will be mailed by May 30th and after that, the county takes over customer service and billing," explained Norcross City Manager Rudolph Smith. "In the meantime, a letter explaining the transition process in detail is inserted into this month's utility bill envelope, along with the May newsletter. City staff is always available to answer questions, too."

It's projected that city residents switching to the county will be seeing an increase in their water and sewer bill by $7.50 on average per month, according to Alisha Voutas, the customer service manager for Gwinnett County's Department of Water Resources.
