30 Fulton Schools 'Beat The Odds' In Student Achievement
The analysis measures schools against those with similar backgrounds to see whether they performed better than statistically expected.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA — Thirty schools in the Fulton County School System have “beaten the odds” for the 2017-2018 school year, according to information released Friday by the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement.
The “Beats the Odds” analysis measures schools against those with similar backgrounds to see whether they performed better than statistically expected on the College and Career Ready Performance Index.
The CCRPI is Georgia’s statewide accountability system that measures schools and school districts on a 100-point scale based on multiple indicators of performance. Schools that “beat the odds” are those with a higher CCRPI than similar schools serving comparable students in Georgia.

The Beating the Odds analysis predicts a range within which each school’s CCRPI is statistically expected to fall – given the school’s size, grade cluster, student mobility and student demographics (including race/ethnicity, disability, English Language Learners, and poverty).
Previously, if an individual school’s actual CCRPI was above the predicted range, then that school beat the odds. The 2018 calculation for Beating the Odds (BTO) was recently revised, which makes comparisons of 2018 results to previous years invalid. The changes made include several computational changes, the evaluation of different school characteristics and the addition of an outcome tier of “Within Expected Range.”
