7 Recent Fraud Crimes in Sandy Springs
Crimes range from counterfeit money to stolen Social Security numbers.

- A Sandy Springs woman reported that she bought concert tickets on Craigslist and later found that the tickets were counterfeit. The seller had tickets to the July 26th Aerosmith concert valued at $150 each, but said he would sell them for $100. She went to the concert and found that the tickets were not real.
- On July 27, a man on North Spalding received a call from “Credit Secure” and was advised that someone used his Social Security number to open an account at “Wed Bank” in either Virginia or Utah.
- Separately, a woman on Waterford Place reported that someone used her Social Security number to file taxes.
- A Roswell Road resident filed his taxes and was told by the IRS that someone had already used his Social Security number.
- On July 30, a woman on Spalding Ridge Way reported that her credit card company notified her that someone accessed her number and had purchased items from Orvis for $835 and Office Depot for $1,100 for printer ink. The address to ship was her actual address (meaning the bad guys intended to intercept.)
- A Sandy Springs man reported someone accessed his credit card number and used it at a bed and breakfast in Daytona, Fla.
- Also, on July 30, the manager of Hardees on Abernathy Road said that two men came in and each paid for a soda with a $10 bill that he recognized as counterfeit. He ran outside but found that they were already running down Abernathy Road.
