- The Sandy Springs Police, Fire, and Parks and Recreation Departments will host a Back-to-School Bash and National Night Out program on Aug. 1 at City Springs. Families will have the chance to explore police cars, fire trucks, and the mobile command center, including the QRF and SWAT trucks. Attendees can enjoy various activities, such as dancing to a DJ, climbing a giant inflatable obstacle course, and receiving complimentary refreshments like snow cones and hot dogs. The event also features a helicopter landing on Mount Vernon Highway and aims to foster community-building and police-community partnerships for safer neighborhoods. (Rough Draft Atlanta)
- Authorities in Fulton County are implementing enhanced security measures around the courthouse ahead of upcoming "high profile legal proceedings," though they have not specified the case. It is suspected that the measures are related to a grand jury considering potential criminal interference in Georgia's 2020 presidential election, including charges against former President Donald Trump, Rudy Giuliani, and others. The investigation, led by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, has been ongoing for more than two years and is expected to conclude with potential indictments in August. (WSB-TV)
- A man is on the run down the road in East Point after fleeing from a police officer who tried to arrest him. The officer attempted to pull over a stolen vehicle, but the driver refused to comply and ran away. During the pursuit, the suspect fired a shot at the officer, who returned fire, but fortunately, no one was injured. The suspect remains at large, and authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the Fulton County Police Department. (WSB-TV)
