Car Leaves Road, Goes Airborne, Overturns In Crash

The accident was reported in front of the Abernathy Arts Center on Johnson Ferry Road in Sandy Springs.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA — A woman was hospitalized Thursday when her vehicle left the roadway and overturned in front of the Abernathy Arts Center in Sandy Springs, police said.

A preliminary investigation indicates the driver, 31-year-old Zahide Rodriguez, was traveling eastbound near the Arts Center at 254 Johnson Ferry Road when the Acura left the roadway and struck an embankment, said Sandy Springs police spokesperson Sgt. Sam Worsham.

That collision caused the car to go airborne, overturn and come to a rest on its roof in front of the arts center, Worsham added. Sandy Springs police and fire crews responded to the location after a resident called 911 to report the accident. Rodriguez was transported to an area hospital for treatment of moderate injuries.

"She is currently stable and expected to survive," Worsham said, adding Rodriguez was alone in the car and no other vehicles were involved in the crash.
