Last Cow Dumped On I-285 Found In Sandy Springs
Sandy Springs police said two cowboys helped corral the young animal Monday night on Powers Ferry Road near Ray's on the River.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA — The final cow that was at large following Monday's chaotic accident that dumped dozens of the cattle on Interstate 285 at I-75 was captured last night in Sandy Springs, police department spokesperson Sgt. Sam Worsham said.
The cow was found on Powers Ferry Road near Ray's on the River. This animal, he said, was initially cornered on I-285 eastbound near the Chattahoochee River, but it was able to escape before Cobb County Animal Control officers arrived to place the cow in the trailer.
Sgt. Worsham said the stockyards were contacted, and two cowboys with horses were dispatched to help with the task at hand. Those cowboys were able to "rope the young bull and get him on the trailer," the sergeant said.

"We are glad that this long day have (sic) finally ended, and that there were no serious injuries caused by cars crashing on the interstate due to cows," Worsham told Patch. "Traffic was affected for most of the day, and we appreciate everyone’s patience when we had to stop all lanes to try to catch the cattle."

This nightmare began before daybreak Monday when a truck carrying a livestock trailer overturned while trying to exit from I-285 eastbound onto northbound I-75, Cobb police spokesperson Sgt. Wayne Delk said. The trailer was loaded with 89 cows, many of which escaped from the trailer and ran loose on the interstate and surrounding areas after the accident.
Several of the cows dumped onto the roadway made it to the New Northside Drive and Powers Ferry Road area in Sandy Springs, Worsham told Patch. SSPD officers worked with Cobb County police to round up the cattle so they can be transported to a facility in Calhoun. Of the 89 cows, 11 died in connection to the initial crash and other incidents following the overturned truck.
The driver of the truck that overturned was injured in the crash, as was another motorist who struck one of the cows that got free on the interstate, Sgt. Delk told Patch.
