Fire Hydrant Inspections Start In Sandy Springs

The process is expected to take several weeks to complete.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA — The Sandy Springs Fire-Rescue Department has embarked on its routine inspection of fire hydrants within the city.

The agency is inspecting and flushing all hydrants to ensure proper maintenance and operation of the infrastructure. Sandy Springs notes the operation is expected to take several weeks to complete.

Hydrant flushing helps ensure water quality and works to prevent buildup of minerals and sediments within the water lines, which can cause rusting. During the flushing process, water at the hydrant site, as well as in nearby homes, may temporarily appear rust-colored as iron and mineral deposits in the water are stirred up.

Residents should note the water is safe to use and consume during hydrant flushing, but could stain laundry. To clear home lines, residents should run the cold water tap until the water runs clear.
