Man Who Tried To Carjack ATL Officer Sentenced In Murder Trial
A man convicted of killing his girlfriend and carjacking an Atlanta police officer and 4 others during a crime spree was sentenced in GA.
SANDY SPRINGS, GA — A North Carolina man was sentenced to life in prison after being accused of fatally shooting his girlfriend and trying to carjack an Atlanta Police intelligence officer and four others during a crime spree.
Sandy Springs Police on Tuesday said Fortune Jaquan Spencer shot and killed girlfriend, Sherika Monique Little, on June 6, 2020.
At the time, police said Little was sitting in her parked car at a Peachtree Dunwoody Road hotel. A motive in the shooting is unknown.

After the deadly shooting, police said Spencer then ran to the 1100 block of Hammond Drive, where he tried to carjack the Atlanta officer.
He then carjacked an older woman at Hammond; however, police said he crashed her car into several other vehicles at a Peachtree Dunwoody apartment complex in an attempt to flee.

Afterward, Spencer then ran into the roadway and tried to carjack three other people. During the attempt, police said Spencer was hit by a passing driver, and soon later, was arrested by Sandy Springs officers.
Fulton County Jail records showed Spencer was booked on June 7, 2020, and was charged on suspicion of:
- Three counts of murder
- Three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon
- Three counts of possession of a firearm during commission of a felony (person of another)
- Two counts of first-degree hijacking a motor vehicle
- Four counts of second-degree hijacking a motor vehicle
- Two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs
- Driving under the influence of alcohol - per se
- Striking unattended vehicle
- Two counts of second-degree criminal damage to property
- Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
Spencer was convicted on all counts and was sentenced to life in prison without parole plus 145 years during last week's trial, police said.
"The commendable collaboration and tireless efforts between the Sandy Springs Police detectives and prosecutors with the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office were appreciated by the victims and their families," police said in a news release.
