Here are the top three stories today in Sandy Springs:
- The miracle retired K9 of Dekalb County who recovered after being shot in the head on duty in 2018 passed away this week. Indi was shot in the head while he and his partner were tracking down a suspect accused of killing Dekalb County Officer Edgar Flores. Although Indi lost an eye from the incident, he recovered faster than anyone imagined and returned to the force just three months later. After serving seven years on the force, Indi retired in 2020 after serving on the force since 2013. (WSB Atlanta)
- Fire Station 5 is finally set to begin construction on Mount Vernon Road after 10 long years of conversations. On Thursday, Mar. 16, officials held a groundbreaking ceremony for the new station, which is positioned specifically to better serve the Sandy Springs community and reduce response times by up to seven minutes. Construction will begin on the new station on Mar. 27, and it is projected to be completed sometime in April 2024. (MDJOnline.com)
- Rreal Tacos continues its expansion into Sandy Springs with its fourth location that will be opening on Saturday, Apr. 1 at 227 Sandy Springs Place, NE. This will be the first spot in Sandy Springs and intends to be the place to be with its authentic Mexico City tacos and the amazing variety of drinks. Rreal Tacos is known for giving its top-five performing employees a piece of equity with every location that opens, and the chain plans to continue expansion through the state, including locations in Alpharetta, Buckhead, and more.
